It’s that time of year again! The delicate crispness of Autumn mornings kisses our cheeks, reminding us that Starbucks’ holiday cups synonymous with Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back!
Though we choose to reserve these for our cheat days, we do appreciate the incredible amounts of skin-benefitting nutrients that pumpkins have to offer. In fact, one of the less obvious pumpkin-power-players (wooh, that’s a mouthful) is Zinc, which has been shown to reduce inflammation and calm androgens, the hormones that often trigger acne. Pumpkin also boasts an array of antioxidants, including vitamins A, B, C, and beta-carotene, which can reverse UV damage and help improve skin texture!
Here’s our take on a skin-friendly Pumpkin Spice smoothie:
1 turmeric #CrushedTonic
½ cup filtered water
½ cup organic unsweetened almond milk
½ cup canned pure pumpkin (or cooked and puréed)
1 small organic golden pear, chopped
2-3 pitted dates
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (or ground)
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds (optional)
3-4 slices banana (optional)
Blend all of the ingredients together until smooth. Enjoy!
